"One Busy Weekend!!"

Hey, when it's July 4th, it's all business, all the time! And man, did we pack a LOT into 3 days. Actually four. I got off early Friday so I went home and put up a fence panel that was sorely needed. Of course, by doing so, I pulled off some slats on the panel next to it so now I have to replace THOSE. Ugh. Why did the previous owners use mismatched beams? Idiots.

Then...Saturday night we went to Putt Putt! I tell ya...playing with adults is one thing, but when you have two kids who seem to play every hole except the one they're supposed to, it's a marathon:

Putt Putt 7-2-11
Me: "Hey guys, that's not a real mushroom!"
Emily: "Yes it is!"
Me: "Really?"
Zach: "NO! Have you ever seen a mushroom this big outside of Chernobyl DAD?"
Me: "Hmm, you have a point...and your vocabulary is ever-expanding son...every day..."

Putt Putt 7-2-11
Geez, where did my neck go? Mental note: stand up straight for every single picture for the rest of my life.

Putt Putt 7-2-11
Aww, what a great family shot.

Putt Putt 7-2-11
Emily: "So now Dad I'm going to actually hit the ball with my club."
Me: "Is that how you are going to get it into the hole?"
Emily: "Yep!"
Me: "Well, that's better than how I was going to do it."
Zach: "How's that?"
Me: "Handheld fan and a lot of light kicks!"

Man has Emmy got a swing! Lots of power! Heaven help the pitcher that has to face her when she plays little league this fall.

Then...Sunday...we went to the Leavitt Pavillion to take part in their celebration! They really went all out. Bounce houses, free cotton candy (which tasted a little like fiberglass, but was still good), and of course, fireworks! They had live music before and patriotic songs during the show. I was beyond exhausted, but it was worth it:

I think I need to teach Zach how to slide down properly...unless he did that on purpose...hmmm.

July 4th 2011
This was a bounce house where they tied two kids to a bungee cord and the first one to make a basket won. Zach won one and the other kid won one. All good. I got this shot as he was completely off the ground!

Emily did kind of the same thing. She had to get a football farther than her opponent which happened to be a girl in her girl scout troop...also named Emily! Small world sometimes.

Next...face-painting! We waited in line for almost two hours to get this done. I kept asking Zach and Emmy "are you sure you want to spend the rest of the night waiting in line? Cuz that's what's gonna happen!" They kept saying "Yes we want to do it." So...finally...we made it:

Me: "Let's turn those frowns upside down!"

July 4th 2011
Me: "Emmy, nice work...Zach...(SIGH)..."

Zach got a dragon and Emmy got a frog. $7 well spent yes?

Now for the main event:

That last one is my fave. Very creepy.

THEN...after that...we went to Casa de Overall and shot off some of our own fireworks!:

July 4th 2011
Me: "Hey Camron, what kind of fireworks do you have there?"
Camron: "It's something called a 'doobie'...I bought it from a guy behind the fireworks stand."
Me: "Um...yeah...why don't we throw that down the sewer before the police show up."

It took an eternity to get this picture...an eternity...

THEN...Monday we went to grandma's house for a cook out:

4th Of July 2011
Me: "Hey Dean...what's with all the corn?"
Dean: "Well, we're trying to eat healthier these days...did you bring pie?"
Me: "Yup...apple...cuz apples are good for you!"

4th Of July 2011
Dad: "Geez, what the heck is this?"
Me: "It's guava paste! Eat it!"
Dean: "He's right Kerry...it's like a gooey piece of heaven!"
Dad: "Um, I see that...would you and the guava paste like to be alone?"
Dean: "Actually, yeah..."

Nice shot of the Overall males...wish Grandpa could have been part of this one. I guess no one lives forever. I think just knowing that helps us live our life a little less hectic than it has to be. If you knew anyone who died does it seem like their entire life went by that fast? Everything they worked for, seemingly pointless now. I really don't think they're in Heaven going "I can't believe what's going on down on Earth." No matter what walk of life we come from, we all have about the same amount of time to live life the way we want to.
